A walkthrough of a project I have completed to promote Green and Black’s chocolate to a specific audience of 50-65 year old men. 

My first attempt at using Google SketchUp- I have created a participation booth/tent to be situated at sporting events promoting the health benefits of Green & Black’s to men where they can play a rugby game within.

From research I discovered the flavanoids in dark chocolate have bad cholesterol lowering effects. 

Video should be much smoother but will try to fix this problem!

Alongside the design module this semester I have undertaken a module purely studying the principles of typography. I have created a separate blog to show my research into this subject. francescaogtypography.tumblr.com

I have also been studying Design Management and Design Theory which is becoming quite mathematical looking at Fibonacci’s Golden section and creating patterns that can be tiled efficiently.

Design Management is my favourite module this semester- it has given me an in-depth introduction into Brand management and increased my knowledge in the protection of intellectual property. Aspects of design that are often not taught to design students but are vital especially within the competitive industry. I would like to use what I have learnt from this module next year during my placement. 

My most current Graphic Design brief is to promote Green & Black’s chocolate to males of 50-65 years. In the past few weeks I have been researching their brand, the target audience and interactive digital ways to advertise. Shown is one of my most favourite adverts I discovered for the chocolate. It targets the my market perfectly with its location in the business section of The Independent and it’s witty reference to their job. Perfect combination of design for a certain location.

Developing a typeface for people with dyslexia

The Audi Design Foundation has supported a study into the relationship between dyslexia and typography which according to Natascha Frensch (RCA Communication, Art & Design) is a topic that research needs to be encouraged in. Frensch along with Audi Design Foundation have created a case-study into developing a typeface for people with dyslexia:

The study used sans serif typeface to ensure the objective of reducing form and detail, with the inner forms of the letters kept large and open to prevent them from ‘bleeding’ out to become a closed rather than an open form. The issue of problems relating to reversing and inverting similar letterforms was resolved.

Such a beautiful project created to show how the current definitions of typography are invalid as they do not allow the definition to evolve with technology.
